Commodity markets are becoming more transparent: from true pricing initiatives to fully transparent supply chains. All with a common aim: to realise a fair market. Rainforest Alliance wanted to explore the market of Full Transparency and it’s potential role in this space. Uncovering questions like: How can transparency be most beneficial to farmers? What role will legislation play in full transparency? Who should be the owner of data in a fully transparent market? What new data and technology are key to adopt? What do brand and consumers look for in full transparency?
To understand the theme of full transparency we used a mix of desk research and expert interviews; exploring a broad range of topics: from technology & data to legislation, key market players and propositions. With a “lighthouse workshop” we formulated a future role and position for Rainforest Alliance in this field. During a “co-creation” session with 9 external experts we set up concrete opportunities for Rainforest Alliance in full transparency. With experts in coffee, cacao, legal, technology & more.
This project resulted in a clear role and actionable way forward for Rainforest Alliance in the full transparency space. Including a map of potential opportunities in this space, a partner database with 50+ potential partners, and a deep-dive into 15 potential partners.
